About Cubanos por el Mundo

Cubanos por el Mundo is an independent digital news outlet covering, analyzing and documenting Cuba and the Cuban diaspora around the world. We founded the project to provide an open news platform for events affecting Cubans on and off the island, with particular attention to the political, social, economic and cultural issues shaping the country’s present and future.

Founded in September 2011, Cubanos por el Mundo has become a source of news, context and analysis for thousands of readers following Cuba. Our editorial approach combines current affairs coverage, investigative journalism, reporting on international developments affecting the island and stories from Cuban communities abroad.

From the outset, our editorial position toward the Castro regime has been firm, critical and clearly defined. Spokespeople and media linked to the Cuban regime have publicly criticized and condemned that position. Our outlet has consistently reported on human rights violations in Cuba, political repression, censorship, structural poverty, the absence of fundamental freedoms and corruption within the ruling elite.

As a consequence of our independent editorial stance, Cubanos por el Mundo has been blocked and censored inside Cuba, preventing many people on the island from freely accessing our content through state-controlled internet networks. This censorship is part of a systematic pattern of restricting access to independent media that offer reporting different from the official narrative.

Our editorial commitment is to bring attention to the realities that have affected the Cuban people for decades and amplify voices, both on and off the island, calling for democratic change, respect for civil liberties and an end to political repression.

Independence and funding

Cubanos por el Mundo receives no funding from any government, political institution or state organization. Advertising agreements and private sponsors support our work. They promote their brands on our platforms because of our audience, reach and influence within the global Cuban community.

Despite this transparency, the Castro regime and its spokespeople have sought to discredit our work for years, repeatedly accusing us of receiving foreign funding or serving outside political interests. Such accusations are part of a recurring propaganda strategy against independent media that report on realities the regime seeks to conceal.

Our editorial independence rests on the opposite principle: we do not depend on government structures or imposed political agendas. That allows us to maintain a free and critical editorial position, committed to the truth and the interests of the Cuban people.

Our mission

Our mission is to report responsibly, encourage public debate and bring attention to issues affecting Cubans, adding context and a range of perspectives to the national and international conversation about Cuba.

Our vision

We aspire to be one of the leading digital news sources for the global Cuban community, contributing to an informed, critical and open discussion of Cuba’s present and future.

A global audience

Our coverage serves Cubans on the island, members of the diaspora in different countries and readers seeking a better understanding of Cuba’s political, social and cultural realities.

Through our website and social media platforms, we seek to connect the global Cuban community, share relevant information and encourage informed discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing Cuba.
