Cubanos por el Mundo is an independent digital news outlet founded in September 2011 to cover Cuba’s political, social, economic and cultural realities, as well as Cuban communities abroad. Transparency, responsible reporting and a commitment to the public interest guide our editorial work.
Editorial independence
Cubanos por el Mundo maintains full editorial independence. Our editorial team and contributors produce our coverage without intervention from governments, political parties or outside organizations.
Advertising and commercial agreements with private sponsors support our work. Sponsors advertise on our platforms because of our audience reach. These agreements do not influence our editorial position or our news coverage.
Our editorial position
Since its founding, Cubanos por el Mundo has maintained an editorial position critical of the Cuban regime. We report on human rights violations, the absence of civil liberties, political repression, censorship and the economic and social conditions affecting people on the island.
Our editorial approach seeks to bring attention to the realities Cubans face at home and abroad and to encourage public debate on national and international issues involving Cuba.
Separating news from opinion
Cubanos por el Mundo clearly distinguishes between news reporting and opinion.
- News: articles presenting verifiable facts and reporting based on available sources, public documents, testimony and statements.
- Opinion and analysis: articles expressing interpretations, commentary or viewpoints from authors, columnists or the publication itself.
Opinion articles are clearly identified in their respective category to distinguish them from news reporting.
Verifying information
Our editorial team seeks to verify published information through:
- Reviewing public sources and “official” documents when available, given the Castro regime’s lack of transparency and access to information.
- Consulting reports from Cuban and international media.
- Gathering direct testimony and reports from citizens and sources on the ground, who contact us daily by email, social media inboxes and mentions, and especially WhatsApp.
- Analyzing information available on social media and through open sources.
When information cannot be independently verified, we indicate that in the relevant coverage.
Transparency and accountability
Cubanos por el Mundo promotes editorial transparency through:
- Identifying article authors whenever possible.
- Publishing editorial and corrections policies.
- Separating editorial content from advertising, including sponsored articles.
- Updating or correcting information when errors are found.
Given Cuba’s political circumstances, some contributors may use pseudonyms to protect their safety against potential retaliation, including persecution, imprisonment or even death at the hands of Cuban State Security, both inside Cuba and abroad.
Censorship and access to information
Access to Cubanos por el Mundo has been blocked or restricted on certain occasions inside Cuba, as part of the Castro regime’s control of information affecting independent media and digital platforms. Relevant measures include Decree-Law 370/2019, Decree-Law 35/2021, the 2024 Social Communication Law and the 2022 Penal Code. Some linked sources are in Spanish.
Our commitment to readers
We are committed to offering relevant information, context and analysis about Cuba and the global Cuban community. Cubanos por el Mundo seeks to contribute to an informed discussion that includes a range of perspectives on events affecting the country and its citizens on and off the island.
